Why You Should Take a Break.

It's summer time (at least in our hemisphere) which means many of us are taking a break from improv right now! If you're worried about getting out of practice, fear not - taking breaks is an important part of any training process. So grab a book and something with ice and an umbrella in it, and chill out while you get better at improv.... by not doing it!

🌴 THE ART OF TAKING A BREAK
Like any skill, improv demands both play and pause. Just as athletes rest their bodies to build strength, improvisers benefit from downtime to digest, assimilate, and allow ideas to settle. Allowing your improv muscles to relax and recover cultivates mental clarity and creates space for new ideas.

🌅 BROADEN YOUR HORIZONS
Exploring other interests enriches your improv toolbox. Learning new things and diving into different hobbies broadens your horizons, enabling you to draw from a diverse pool of knowledge. Delving into various subjects equips you with experiences, insights, and perspectives you can infuse into your scenes.

👀 FRESH EYES
Stepping away from improv gifts you a reset button. Returning with fresh eyes unveils new angles, techniques, and creative approaches you may have missed before. Time off lets you see improv through a different lens. Fresh experiences spark innovative connections and inject your scenes with something new and unexpected.

🔥 REKINDLE THE FLAME
Absence makes the heart grow fonder! Taking a break can fuel your desire to step back on stage. Just as chapters in a book unfold with new twists, so does your improv journey. When you hit a plateau or have been going hard, pauses lead to anticipation, growth, excitement, and a renewed sense of discovery and appreciation.

🗝️ UNLOCK THE NEXT LEVEL
Breaks aren't detours; they're checkpoints. Taking a break allows you to return with a full heart and fresh perspective, and it might be the shift you need to unlock a new level of understanding. Returning after a pause also allows you to view your progress and celebrate how far you have come.
